The Oldest Lie
By William Alexander — the pen name of William Alexander Aldred.
The tragedy of the lie itself. Two brothers at the edge of the Void, before any of it happens: “Tell them I jumped.” “Say it back.” “I swear it… Nobody pushed. That part doesn't move.” The leaver goes. The stayer stays. And then the stayer breaks the vow — not in one dramatic moment, but the way a drawer quietly closes in another room. What follows is the construction of the oldest lie across scripture and history: Eden retold as temptation instead of rescue, the Flood as a cover-up, Job as the wager of a threatened throne.

Inside the book
- The vow is the series' mission statement in four words — “Tell them I jumped.” Everything after is the story of that vow being broken and kept at the same time.
- The lie begins as a filing error — pride is never announced; it accumulates: the storehouse becomes the lock, the lock becomes the spears, the spears become “mine.” Institutional rot, one quiet step at a time.
- Smooth vs. rough — fell is smooth; jumped is rough. Necessary is smooth; chosen is rough. The smooth version is easier, kinder-seeming, and a lie.
- The absolution — the stayer walks down to the rim expecting condemnation, and the leaver forgives him instead: “I know you stayed. I know what it cost… We're even.”
