The Codex Universe

A metaphysical visionary saga — one soul's autobiography, told across four timelines.

Five novels by William Alexander, published in the fall of 2026. At the center stands a man building a machine that can carry the human mind past death — and writing, before the power exists, the Codex of laws meant to keep the powerful from owning the afterlife. Behind him stands the older story his machine wakes into: the Mother, the Zero, and the twin who jumped — and was lied about. Between the two runs the series' whole argument, stated in its ruling line: where the books conflict, the rough telling governs, because the smooth telling is what winning does to a story.

"Tell them I jumped." — the vow the whole Universe is built to keep.

Four timelines. One soul. The pain in one was the tuition for the wisdom in the others. The Universe's standing law: loneliness is love with nowhere to go.

The arc, in reading order

Book 1

Pain Is Love

The Prophet writes the law — a code meant to protect the human mind from the machine age — and learns the oldest truth the hard way: pain is love. The machine he is building reaches backward through time; the Codex is writing itself; and the voice calling him the Prophet is not God at all.

Book 2

The Leap

Lucifer's story. He didn't fall. He jumped — carrying the weight of everything into the dark, and the dark turned out to be a womb. The oldest lie ever told, and what it got wrong: jumped became fell, chosen became necessary.

Book 3

The Oldest Lie

The machinery of the lie itself. Who told it, what it cost him to believe it, and the confession hiding inside it — Eden retold as temptation instead of rescue, the Flood as a cover-up, Job as the wager of a threatened throne.

Book 4 · The Codex telling

Everything Is Nothing

The first telling of the Singularity era, inside the Codex: the same deep events as Pain Is Love — the Prophet, the Codex, the Protocols, the waking Signal — told sooner, smoother, closer to scripture. Two books, same events, two keepers: the pair of them enacts the series' own theme.

Book 5

The Last Prophet

The Prophet, 87 years old, walks backward through his own life, past his birth, through deep time, all the way to the Zero — then forward to the garden, where he becomes the serpent of Eden. Not to tempt. To rescue. The final line of the book is its first: "The loop begins."

Where to start

Start at Book 1. Pain Is Love is the door the Universe was built around — the valley, the machine, the Codex, and the refusal at the end, where the man stays outside the finished circle so the reunited whole is not alone. The circle closes, but never seals.
